Press Eye - Belfast - Northern Ireland - 8th August 2017
A bonfire pictured in the nationalist new Lodge estate in north Belfast which is due to be lit tonight(Tuesday). Republican bonfires are burnt on the 8th August to mark the anniversary of internment. Internment was introduced in 1972 to Northern Ireland by the British government and involved locking up tourist suspects without trail. Republican bonfires are only in small numbers and Belfast has seen some trouble in the last few days due to agencies removing them.
