Press Eye - Hovis Strike - 14th May 2021
(L-R) Laura Graham, Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union and Sean McKeever Unite Regional Officer.
Strike action threatening the supply of bread in Northern Ireland took place on Friday morning at Hovis, Belfast, after workers and bosses failed to reach agreement.
Union Unite warned of the likelihood of bread shortages at the weekend as Hovis workers confirmed the all-out strike action.
They claim management at the South Belfast site are offering a three percent pay increase, but that bakers have rejected it. Unite says the 10 percent raise they want will only give them pay parity with Hovis workers in Britain.
