New Lord Mayor of Belfast installed at AGM

Sinn Fein councillor John Finucane has tonight been installed as the new Lord Mayor of Belfast.
The 39-year-old father of four, a newly-elected councillor in the recent Local Government Election, takes over from outgoing Lord Mayor and party colleague, Councillor Deirdre Hargey.
Speaking about his appointment, Councillor Finucane said: Its a privilege for me to be taking over the chain of office from Deirdre and I will continue to keep equality and rights at the heart of my term of office.
I want to be a Lord Mayor for all the people of Belfast, to celebrate our diversity as a city and promote inclusivity; to build economic prosperity and tackle issues such as climate change, which impacts on everyone and affects everyones quality of life.
He added: The Belfast Agenda has ambitions to see a Belfast reimagined, well-connected, culturally vibrant, and a magnet for talent. During my term of office, I will be seeking opportunities to continue to showcase the city and its people, to continue to drive change and build on existing momentum.
Councillor Finucane represents the Castle electoral area of the city.

Also at tonights AGM, Councillor Peter McReynolds was elected Deputy Lord Mayor. The Alliance party councillor takes over from outgoing Deputy Lord Mayor and party colleague, Councillor Emmet McDonough-Brown.
The Alliance councillor is a representative for Ormiston area.
